My True "Sis"
Karen, you may be my sister-in-law
But to me, you just couldn't be
Any more special, respected or loved.
You're more like a sister to me.
I count on you always for so many things.
You're there for me come what may,
And what a blessing it is just to know
You're only a phone call away.
We're so much alike that even the thoughts
Which so often run through our minds
Are spoken at times in the very same words
That come out at just the same time.
I remember with fondness the laughs that we've shared
And the fun times we've had on the way,
Like the April Fool's joke we played on our girls
And our dear Stephen's wedding day.
It's hard to know which daughter is whose,
Our traits are so intertwined.
Say, are you sure that Sherry is yours
And Elizabeth is really mine?
Because you're constantly there for those
You love, through good times and bad,
We need not mention the usual fate
Of those who might make you mad!
And though you’ve now reached your 60th year,
You're witty and beautiful still.
Others may think so and beat you there first
But you’ll never be “over the hill.”
On your birthday, my sister, I just have to say
What joy I would have missed
If I had not known you these 43 years
And you had not been my true "sis."
