Love From Your Best Friend
July 24, 2003
Goodbye Poetry Examples
I can't believe how quickly time's passed
Since the day I first met you,
When you came to borrow trays of ice
So the ice cubes you could chew.

It seemed that we were instant friends,
We'd laugh 'til there were tears,
And each day brought us closer yet
As the days turned into years.

Back then our lives seemed simple
As we'd talk of boys and clothes,
Or what color lipstick we should wear
Or should we paint our toes?

Soon boyfriends left and husbands came,
And soon we both had kids,
And they've grown up to love us both
And for our attention to bid.

Some folks say we're competitive,
For our vans we like to race.
No, I'd just like to beat you, girl,
On the show, "Amazing Race."

We've shared our love for bowling.
With our husbands we'd play cards
'Til a slight dispute gave the cards a boot
And landed them in the yard.

And then there were those diets;
We'd last on them for days.
We'd try to give our best support
But ice cream's what we craved.
We've shared our love of restaurants;
We've tipped many a waiter.
We've laughed and cried; we thought we'd die
In that stuck old elevator.

But no times can compare to those
When I felt I'd been abandoned.
You'd rush right in and lift my chin
And you'd do it single-handed.

And when in life I'd make a choice
You knew deep down was wrong,
You'd never judge, you'd simply nudge
As you'd help me right along.

Now we both know it's not good-bye,
But just another chapter
In stories told when we get old
That will still bring tears of laughter.

But Tammy, before you leave this State
There are things that you should know,
Like how our friendship has changed my life
And how I'll miss you so.

I can't begin to express my thanks
For all the things you do.
I'm just glad you came my way that day
To borrow my ice cubes.
