Quiet Thoughts of You

When silent moments come to me
And the long day is through,
I paint your portrait in my mind
With quiet thoughts of you.

And all the while I think of you
Your voice floats on the air,
But I know it's just a vision
And you're not really there.

And when I reach out to touch you
You quickly fade away,
But you'll be back tomorrow
As you are every day.

So tomorrow I'll be waiting
Just like I always do
To spend again my silent hours
With quiet thoughts of you.

Silhouettes

Ending a wonderful day with you

Watching the sun melt into the sea.

There on the beach alone together

Are the silhouettes of you and me.

As the sandy shore on which we stand

Is embraced by rushing waters blue,

Our silhouettes have now become one.

My arms of love are embracing you.

Tom Kendall

                   Why?

My love, my love, why did you go?
Who's taken you away?
My empty arms have asked me why
And why I cannot say.

Without a word you disappeared,
But why a silent flight
Just leaving me to dream of you
Most each and every night?

One night I thought that you came back.
One kiss had calmed my fears.
Then I awoke to find your kiss
Was but the taste of tears.

Prayer of Love

Lord, hear the prayer I pray tonight,

Yet not another prayer for me,

But for the girl I love so much

Who in this hour sleeps silently.

Lord, send an angel to her side

To guard against the night so deep,

And bless her with your warming smile

And give her mind a dreamless sleep.

Thoughts and Dreams

If only you could read my thoughts
You'd be surprised to find
That you're the one I'm thinking of,
Again you're on my mind.

Thinking of you brings you closer
Although you're miles away.
I see you through a misty haze
Like dreams of yesterday.

I hear the whisper of your voice.
I reach to hold you near.
You look at me with longing eyes
And then you disappear.

For a moment you were with me,
Or at least so it seemed.
Then I recall you're miles away
And know that I have dreamed.

Imagining

I see on summer mornings in a misty haze of blue
A silhouette against the dawn and I know it's you.
Now and then you come again, yes you do.

I quickly run to meet you and just as I'm getting near
My arms reach out to hold you but then you  disappear.
As real as you seem, I know it's a dream.  You're not here.

Then it is I realize how much I'm wanting you,
But I know you don't love me.  There's nothing I can do.
No amount of wishing can make it come true.

Then when darkness comes again your vision returns to me.
I see your portrait painted on midnight tapestry.
I wish you'd realize.  Open your eyes and you'll see.

The Love of Two

Again I raise the poet's quill
To tell the love of two.
Each one loving most the other -
I speak of me and you.

I feel a love beyond all words.
Its passion knows no end.
Upon my love you fully trust
And I on yours depend.

Since I am yours and you are mine
We are together one,
A single silhouette of love
In shades against the sun.

And so, my love, I try to reach
With words my love for you,
But falling short in my attempt
To tell the love of two.

"Where are you going, good Shepherd?"
"Into the storm," He replied.
"One of my own is lost and alone.
I must bring it safely inside."

"Will you not wait till the morning?"
"The time to go looking is now.
No time for sleep, while wolves stalk my sheep.
Delay I cannot allow."

He reached for His staff by the doorway.
"Will you punish the one gone astray?"
He said with a laugh, "The wolf feels my staff!
The lamb on my shoulders will stay."

Then out amid thunder and lightning,
Through wilderness, mountains and sea,
'Til found and content - just like when He went
Into the storm seeking me.
